When does SCHD pay dividends?

SCHD pays dividends four times a year, in March, June, September and December. Each payment lands on a Monday, three business days after the Wednesday ex-date. The latest was September 28, 2026, and the next is scheduled for December 14. March, June and September pay in the last days of the month, December mid-month.

Most pages stop at “quarterly” and a list of dates. The part that matters for planning is the pattern behind those dates, because once you know it you can place every payment on the calendar a year ahead.

SCHD's payment months and dates

These are the payable dates, meaning the day the cash is paid, taken from the distribution table on Schwab Asset Management’s SCHD page. For the dates that decide whether you receive a payment at all, see our page on SCHD’s ex-dividend date.

Every payable date in that table is a Monday, and every one falls three business days after the ex-dividend date, which is always a Wednesday. That regularity is the whole schedule. If you know the ex-date, you know the payment date.

Why the payment month is not always the quarter month

The gap runs from the ex-date, not from the end of the quarter. In June 2024 the ex-date was Wednesday the 26th, so the payment landed on Monday, July 1, in the next calendar month. Schwab’s 2024 distribution schedule lists exactly that date. It is a small thing, but it matters if you track income by month or by tax year.

Because payment follows a fixed weekday, the date also shifts by a day or two from year to year. The March payment arrived on the 31st in 2025 and the 30th in 2026, and the June payment on the 30th and then the 29th.

December pays earlier than the rest

March, June and September payments land in the last days of the month. December breaks the pattern, with ex-dates on 11 December 2024 and 10 December 2025 and payments on the 16th and the 15th. The next one is scheduled for Monday, December 14, 2026, though that date comes from trackers citing Schwab’s schedule and should be confirmed on Schwab’s page.

If you plan holiday spending or year end contributions around dividend income, count on the money arriving in mid December, not at the very end.

Does SCHD pay monthly?

No. SCHD pays quarterly, which leaves eight months of the year with no payment at all.

SCHD pays in the third month of each quarter. Payment dates fall on a Monday, three business days after the Wednesday ex-date.

That matters if you want income every month. Searches for “SCHD monthly dividend” usually come from people who expected a monthly paycheck. The fund will not deliver one, so there are two honest options: set aside each quarterly payment and spend it across three months, or hold other income sources that pay in the months SCHD does not.

Our SCHD dividend calculator models this the way it actually works. It places payments in March, June, September and December instead of spreading them evenly, and it shows the monthly average of your final year’s income so you can see what each quarterly payment stretches to.

When the money reaches your account

The payable date is when the fund pays out. Your broker then credits each account that held shares before the ex-date, so the exact hour the cash shows up is your broker’s, not Schwab’s. If you reinvest dividends, the new shares are bought after that credit.

Sources and date

Checked 20 October 2026 against the distribution table on Schwab Asset Management’s SCHD page, which carries the eight ex-dates and payable dates used above, and Schwab’s 2024 equity ETF distribution schedule for the July 1, 2024 payment. The December 14, 2026 date comes from third party trackers citing Schwab’s schedule, which we could not open directly, so it is labelled scheduled. The explanation of how the payment is credited to your account is general and varies by broker. Dates are subject to change. This page is general information, not investment advice.
