Where the Formulas Come From
Different categories of tool draw on different kinds of source. Rather than list impressive-sounding organisations, here is what each group actually uses.
Mathematics
Standard, long-established methods the same ones taught in any textbook. These are set out step by step on each tool's page so you can follow the working by hand and confirm the result yourself. Nothing here depends on trusting me.
Finance
Publicly documented financial formulas amortisation, compound interest, lease payment structure, and standard event-study methodology. Each is checked against two or three established calculators before publication, and the method is written on the page.
Health & fitness
Formulas published openly by public health bodies. These are general population equations. They take no account of your build, medical history, medication or circumstances, which is exactly why the output is framed as a starting point rather than a verdict.
Construction & cost estimates
Published contractor pricing ranges, manufacturer specifications, and openly available industry cost surveys. These are the least precise tools on the site. Real quotes vary heavily by region, installer and specification, so treat the output as a rough bracket to start a conversation with a contractor not a quote.
Creator & platform tools
Each platform's own public documentation, plus the behaviour of its public endpoints. Where a figure is an industry estimate rather than a published number, advertising rates, for instance it is labelled as an estimate on the tool page itself.
One rule underpins all of this: a source is only named if it was actually read. Several respected standards in construction and engineering sit behind paywalls costing hundreds of dollars. Those have not been purchased, so they are not cited here even though listing them would look more authoritative. A citation you cannot verify is worth less than no citation at all.

How AI Is Used, And Where It Is Not
AI tools are used in the writing process on this site, in the same way most people now use them. Rather than leave that as a vague admission, here is the actual division of labour.
AI helps with
Drafting explanatory text, tightening wording, structuring long pages, and suggesting the questions a reader is likely to have. It speeds up the writing, not the thinking.
AI is never the last step
No page is published straight from a model. Every formula is checked against its source by hand, every calculator is run with real inputs and edge cases, and every page is read end to end before it goes live.
Language models are good at producing text that sounds right. They are not reliable at arithmetic, at citing sources, or at knowing what changed last month. So they are not trusted with any of those things here. Numbers, formulas and factual claims are verified against the source by a person before publication.
Mistakes are still possible, one person maintains this site, and no review process catches everything. But when something is wrong here, it is a human error that got past a human check, not a machine output nobody looked at. The responsibility sits with Aayush Kulshrestha, not with a tool.
If you find an error, email it in. Corrections are acknowledged within two business days and the page's modified date is updated when the fix goes live, so you can see that it actually changed.
